Description

Old Guard is the opening mission of Starfall. The previous Atlantis administration has collapsed under IOA pressure, leaving the expedition unstable and directionless. Seth Cade arrives as the newly appointed expedition leader, but he is not stepping into a clean slate. Colonel Brynn Hanley has already begun reshaping the program from behind the scenes, pulling strings, securing key personnel, and positioning Cade to take command.

This mission establishes the transition between eras. Cade becomes the public face of the new expedition, while Hanley quietly ensures the foundation is strong enough to support what comes next.

Mission Summary

The mission begins with Cade stepping onto Atlantis for the first time in command. Departments are scattered, morale is low, and the city feels hollow after months of tribunal fallout. Cade spends the mission assessing the state of the expedition, meeting the remaining staff, and reviewing the damage left behind by the previous administration.

Meanwhile, Hanley operates in the background, coordinating with Earth‑side leadership, smoothing political friction, and quietly guiding Cade’s early decisions. She ensures critical roles are filled, stabilizes the command deck, and removes obstacles that would undermine Cade’s authority before he even begins.

Old Guard centers on the interplay between Cade’s visible leadership and Hanley’s strategic influence. By the end of the mission, Cade formally establishes control of the command deck, while Hanley finalizes the structural groundwork that allows the New Dawn program to move forward.

Old Guard closes with the sense that the old era has ended, and the new one is being built through both Cade’s command and Hanley’s quiet, decisive hand.
